Just finished part one of a two day workshop at UK Sport’s annual World Class Performance conference in St Andrews. What a privilege it is to be working with many of the key people who are behind the British Olympic push for London 2012. My topic is High Class Performance during Critical Conversations.

I have been fortunate to have worked extensively with UK Sport and leading athletes, coaches and performance directors in recent years and especially in the lead up to London 2012.

Handling difficult situations and managing conflict arises as much in sport as elsewhere. Being able to address a difficult issue quickly and effectively or to nip a dispute in the bud may make all the difference to a medal performance.

We are working on those little things that make all the difference in difficult situations where a conversation can make or break an outcome. Very similar to mediation of course.

We have had an inspiring address by ex-corporate lawyer and now jockey and free diver, Jim Lawless. Check out his website at www.tamingtigers.com. The challenges presented by guys like Jim and the passion and commitment of these sports people is really thought-provoking. We need constantly to break out of our limited thinking.
