John Sturrock gives key note address at New Zealand conference

John Sturrock QC, Core’s senior mediator, recently gave a keynote address to the annual conference of the Arbitrators and Mediators Institute of New Zealand. His theme was the important role that mediation and mediators can play not only in conventional dispute resolution, but in broader issues of political, policy and global significance, such as climate change.

John also met with senior officials of the New Zealand Parliament to discuss his involvement in the UK in the scrutiny work of parliamentary select committees, and with Wellington City Council representatives to discuss mediation and engagement in important local issues. John is also facilitating an event in Christchurch to discuss outstanding claims following the earthquake there in 2010 and he will be hosting a workshop with New Zealand high performance sports personnel in Auckland, building on his own involvement with UK Sport in the lead up to the Olympics in London in 2012 and Rio in 2016.

John Sturrock commented: "Scotland has so much in common with New Zealand and so much to learn from our friends and colleagues there. It is a privilege to be in that country exchanging ideas and making new connections and friends. Mediation is well recognised and used in New Zealand and Scotland can learn from that experience.""
